Landscapers in Portsmouth

We lay driveways and patios and rebuild gardens across Portsmouth and Southsea. Plots here are often small and the ground is flat and low-lying, so good drainage and clever use of space matter more than anywhere else.

Local know-how

Flat, low-lying ground and drainage

Most of Portsmouth is on Portsea Island, which is flat and only just above sea level in places. Rainwater has nowhere to run, so surface water is the first thing we plan for.

On a Portsmouth job we favour permeable surfaces, set falls carefully and, where the ground will not take water, add a channel drain to a soakaway. A patio that looks fine in summer and floods every winter is not a job we want to leave.

Homes in Portsmouth

Terraces and tight frontages

Southsea, North End and Copnor are dense Victorian and Edwardian terraces with small yards and short front gardens. Up towards Cosham, Drayton and Farlington, houses get bigger, with room for proper drives.

Not sure what would suit your house? Book a free site visit and we will talk it through on the spot.

Planning and permissions in Portsmouth

Portsmouth City Council handles planning and dropped kerbs. Southsea has several conservation areas with tighter rules on front gardens and boundary walls, so we check your street before we design anything.

The national rules are in our driveway planning permission guide, and typical prices are in the driveway cost guide.

FAQs

Portsmouth questions answered

Will a new patio flood on low-lying ground?
Not if the drainage is planned. We set falls away from the house and add a channel drain or soakaway where the ground cannot take the water.
Can you fit parking into a small Southsea front garden?
Sometimes. The car has to fit without hanging over the pavement and you need a dropped kerb from the council. We measure it and tell you honestly if it works.
Which parts of Portsmouth do you cover?
All of the city, PO1 to PO6, including Southsea, North End, Copnor, Milton, Cosham, Drayton, Farlington and Hilsea.
